Kitchen Remodeling Can Add Value to Your Home
Several years ago my husband and I finished a kitchen remodeling project along with remodeling other areas of our country home. It had turned out beautifully. We had raised the sixty-six foot rambler and placed a full basement underneath it. We had removed paneling and had repainted. The house was exactly what we wanted. Then on a whim we found a house on a large lake that we loved. Only six months after having the eleven month remodeling project done, we placed the house on the market. Our kitchen remodeling efforts as well as the other remodeling paid off, the house was on the market for seventy-two hours and we had a full price purchase agreement signed.
Does Your Home Need Some Kitchen Remodeling?
We had two months to pack everything up and we were moving into our one-hundred year old lake home. The home had been remodeled and added on to through the years. We moved in and started to adjust to living on a lake. We loved the view, we loved the fishing, but we hated the kitchen renovations that were done. The cabinets were stained a very dark brown and the hardware was outdated. The configuration was not very convenient either. We decided we needed to look at kitchen remodeling plans. We had taken on the remodeling project in our other home, but we did not know if we had the energy to take on another kitchen remodel project so soon.
Kitchen Remodeling – You May Decide on Small Repairs Instead
We hired a contractor to come out to the house to give us some ideas and estimates for the kitchen remodeling plans that we had in mind. He took our ideas and some measurements and came back a week later with estimates and blue print drawings. We decided that with all the money we had just invested in the house and moving we would have to hold off on our kitchen remodeling plans. We decided that instead we would do a minor kitchen makeover with paint and new hardware on the cabinets. We also decided that we would remove the wallpaper and paint.
Once we started with the kitchen remodeling project, the wallpaper removal ended up being more of a project than we anticipated. When we moved out the refrigerator we discovered a bulge in the wall. When we removed the wallpaper from the area we found that the old laths and plaster had crumbled. We needed to hire a person to come and patch in a piece of drywall. We painted the cabinets and replaced the hardware. The minor kitchen remodel makes it look much brighter for a limited amount of money. We still want to someday complete the kitchen remodeling plans, but in the mean time the area looks cleaner and fresher with the new paint.
