Nails are bad for beads and drywall… first of all the last hit of a nail sets it, and slightly damages the drywall, creating a weak spot.. the taper covers this with mud/compound. Over time vibrations walking/jumping weaken the already bad spots and u get (NAIL POPS). Beads will crack on the edge and u start to see the dimples in drywall. even with ring nails. do not over screw underscrew, but use a screw none the less. pry a nail vrs screw enough said. Update your book “Mishre”
by crimping … I mean you can squish the bead by hand if the bulk head or corner is not 90 deg. cause if any part of the outside edge of the bead moves there is a possible crack later. if the corner is 89 deg. I would squish it to 88 by eye, then screw it in place, making sure the edge is a tight grip to the drywall or plaster ect. therefor eliminating any wrinkles due to incorrect framing. If u nail perfect or screw perfect the nail wil fail when the wood shifts the screw will pull the bead.
I have been doing this 25 years. I would always use screws just know when to stop them. (experiance).. Never use nails on any corner bead unless they are ring nails, even then they can jar loose with vibration. To the owner of the vid you said there is always a stud? not always could be thick plaster or two layers of drywall or laminated on in either case one inch bead will not catch a stud. However if u can metal bead is better. you can also manipulate it by crimping it by hand if not 90 deg
cAN YOU REMOVE THE WORDS. IT’S TAKEN OVER THE VIDEO AND WE CAN’T SEE A THING. THANKS.
my uncles both have been drywalling for over 30 years, and instructions in a book i’ve read also confirms, always use nails on corner bead, not screws.
30 years and u didnt tel us what u use? a nail? Screws hold better than nails…no debate on that…there threaded..
also if u screw with a drywall tip is sinks the nail lower to make it flush.
going with the corner angle. when u mud the corner and sand it would prevent any type of nail pop…
dont get me wrong, any video with captions in the same language as the video is starting out wrong anyway…
30 years never use screws on corner bead
the heads tend to stick up. why didnt you go full lenght?
This video would be better if the camera was closer.
