Did you know you can save money by painting over your old Linoleum flooring? Well you do now. Here are the steps presented in the video. Step One: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Use a medium grit (100) sandpaper to scour the old shiny surface from the flooring. Step Two: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Use a bucket of hot water and a regular mop to remove the remaining dust after sanding. Step Three: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Depending upon your floor’s design, cut your painter’s tape to cover the areas you wish to not paint. In this example, my floor has a regular 4X4 tile design. Step Four: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Use a regular roller to cover the exposed areas with the paint of your choice. I used Glidden’s Porch & Floor Paint with a satin finish. Step Five: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Allow paint to cure for at least 12 to 24 hours. Step Six: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Remove your tape strips from your flooring to reveal a brand new floor with fresh colors and durable paint. Step Seven (Not added in video): ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Use a good acrylic based floor finish to cover your floor for added sheen. I just finished another section of flooring using this method and was very impressed with the results. This time I used an OLFA cutting mat with a X-Acto Knife (Blade #11) to cut the strips. It worked perfectly. I also noted the dry time can be cut down. After about 4 hours, you can walk on the floor with socks. You can also take up the strips at that time. After about 8 hours, you can seal with an acrylic or mop and glo product. Looks brand new! WOW~!

I might also point out, the design I worked with in the video has varying levels. The strips I taped over are at a lower level than the raised squares/tiles. This made it easier for me to sand those areas with minimal sanding on the taped areas. This way, the lines won’t be dulled by any sanding. It worked great. I’ve treated these floors like I would any other. And the Glidden paint I used hasn’t shown one bit of wear. It is a great paint to use for floors.

Unfortunately, I didn’t find one this time. But it gave me an opportunity to make a video that could possibly help others who want to do this.

As for DIY, if you can’t afford an inflated price to get a so-called professional to do it. You can always DO IT YOURSELF. Saving money has become a way of life for me presently.
